Who is a Breast Implant Revision Candidate?
If you’re considering breast implant revision, it’s important to understand if you’re the right candidate. Here are some common reasons people seek this procedure:
- Discomfort or Pain: If your implants are causing you discomfort or pain, it might be time for a revision. Whether it’s from capsular contracture (tightening of scar tissue around the implant) or shifting implants, revision surgery can help restore comfort.
- Implant Rupture or Leakage: Over time, implants can rupture or leak. If you’ve noticed any changes in shape, firmness, or if you suspect your implant has ruptured, revision surgery is often the best solution to replace the damaged implant.
- Unnatural Appearance: Sometimes, implants don’t settle as expected. If you feel like your breasts look too big, too small, or don’t match your body’s natural proportions, breast implant revision can help achieve the more balanced, natural look you desire.
- Changes in Shape or Position: If your implants have moved, drooped, or become asymmetrical, revision surgery can reposition them or even replace them with a better-suited option for your body.
- Aging Implants: Implants don’t last forever, and as they age, you might notice changes in the way they feel or look. If you’ve had implants for many years and want an update, a revision is a great option to rejuvenate your appearance.

Stages of the Breast Implant Revision Surgical Process
Initial Consultation
You’ll meet with Dr. McRae to talk about your goals, concerns, and what you’d like to improve. This is your chance to ask questions and get a clear idea of what to expect.
Personalized Surgical Plan
Dr. McRae will create a plan tailored just for you, deciding on the best approach and implant options (if needed) to achieve the look you want.
Pre-Surgery Preparation
Before surgery day, you’ll get detailed instructions to help you prepare, including any tests or lifestyle tips to ensure a smooth procedure and recovery.
Surgery Day
Dr. McRae performs the revision under anesthesia, carefully making adjustments or replacing implants as needed. The procedure usually takes about 1.5 to 3 hours.
Recovery and Healing
After surgery, you’ll rest and follow Dr. McRae’s guidance to support healing. Swelling and discomfort are normal at first, but these will gradually improve.

You’ll have follow-up appointments with Dr. McRae to track your progress and make sure you’re happy with your new look. Most swelling settles in a few months, revealing your refreshed results.
Fixing a Ruptured Implant and Loving the Results
-
Background
This patient previously had 410 cc textured implants placed under the muscle. She came to us after experiencing changes in her left breast, and imaging confirmed a rupture. The implants were also part of a recalled line. -
Concerns and Goals
She wanted to safely remove the damaged implants, restore a fuller, more natural shape, and improve her body contour with a flatter, more defined midsection. -
Procedure Details
Dr. McRae performed implant removal and capsulectomy, then placed 495 cc smooth Inspira SSX implants partially under the muscle. The patient also had a tummy tuck with 360° liposuction to enhance her waistline and abdominal contour. -
Results and Feedback
At just 3 months post-op, her breasts look balanced and full, with a soft, natural shape. Combined with the tummy tuck and liposuction, her figure now feels more proportioned—and she’s thrilled with the results.
10 Years Later, She Got the Update She Deserved
-
Background
This patient came to us 10 years after her original breast augmentation and lift with 335 cc microtextured implants. She recently learned that her implants had been recalled and was also experiencing changes in her right breast. Imaging confirmed a rupture on that side. -
Concerns and Goals
Her top priority was to safely remove the ruptured and recalled implants and restore a balanced, natural shape. She also wanted a more stable, long-term solution that would help her feel confident and comfortable again. -
Procedure Details
Dr. McRae removed both implants, performed an en bloc capsulectomy on the right, and a partial capsulectomy on the left. The right inframammary fold was reconstructed, and both pectoral muscles were repaired. New 335 cc smooth, full projection implants were placed in the subfascial position. -
Results and Feedback
Only 2 months post-op, her breasts already look fuller and more symmetrical. She’s healing well and is relieved to have moved on from recalled implants to a refreshed, natural result.
